Looking to give your time and talents to support Monroe County? Explore our yearly volunteer initiatives below, organized by program focus.

Monroe County Health Council (MCHC)

  • Cancer Fund Fundraiser (June)

    Help set up, manage ticket/donation tables, and coordinate event logistics to raise funds supporting local cancer patients and health initiatives.

  • Back to School Bash (July)

    Help collect and donate packs of colored pencils for the 500 students we serve annually, or assist on event day with handing out supplies and running activity booths.

  • Community Baby Shower (late summer/early fall)

  • Help support this major event serving 200+ community members by assisting with setup and teardown, assembling grand prize items, staffing the registration table, acting as event runners, and welcoming new and expecting mothers.

  • Breast Cancer Awareness (October)

    Support local outreach efforts by organizing pink-ribbon awareness drives and distributing educational resources on early detection and mammograms.

  • Donor Appreciation (Mailing) (November)

    Help prepare, fold, package, and stamp annual donor appreciation letters and updates to thank our generous community supporters.

Prevention & Wellness Coalition (PWC)

  • National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (January)

    Help assemble and deliver care packages, tokens of appreciation, or meals to local law enforcement personnel across the county.

  • Please Return On Monday Prom (April)

    Support safe prom outreach by distributing safety pledge cards, banners, and educational materials to area high schoolers.

  • Drug Take Back Day (April & October)

    Staff an information table alongside local law enforcement, handing out educational materials and resources as community members drop off their used and expired medications.

  • Pride Event (June)

    Staff our information booth, hand out wellness and prevention resources, answer guest questions, and facilitate public engagement activities.

  • Recovery in the Park (June, July , & August typically)

    Assist with event setup, hosting, and clean-up during our monthly summer park gathering celebrating recovery, health, and community connection.

  • Youth Coalition Summer Event (July)

    Help chaperone, manage activities, and assist with event logistics during our summer youth leadership and empowerment gathering.

  • Smash the Stigma (August)

    Help staff interactive games, resource tables, and activities designed to eliminate social stigma around mental health and substance misuse.

  • Here for the Boo's not the Booze (October)

    Help set up, decorate, and host fun, safe, alcohol-free Halloween alternatives and trick-or-treat activities for local youth and families.

    • Community Scans

      Work alongside team members to conduct community walk-throughs, assessing local public spaces, retail compliance, and community wellness resources.

    • Stuff Parent Folders

    • Put labels on medication lockboxes

    • Advocate Where It Matters Most.

      Prevention starts with awareness, but it grows through community action. Help us protect our youth and support local families by becoming an advocate for prevention in our community.

Monroe STOPe

  • Emma's Hike & Walk Fundraiser (May)

    Support this month-long event by registering and participating in hiking and walking throughout the month, or assist behind the scenes with check-in, water stations, and event coordination.

  • Emma's Medal of Honor Ceremony (July)

    Assist with guest greeting, program distribution, seating, and refreshment service during this annual ceremony.

  • Red Sand Project (July)

    Assist with filling sand bags prior to the event, and help create Red Sand Project installations at various locations throughout the community during awareness week to bring visibility to human trafficking and support vulnerable populations.

  • Domestic Violence Awareness (October)

    Help distribute purple awareness bows to local businesses, organizations, and citizens across the community to display throughout the month, raising visibility and support for healthy relationships and domestic violence prevention.

  • Monroe STOPe Daddy Daughter Dance (December)

    Help decorate the venue, welcome guests at check-in, serve refreshments, manage photo booths, and clean up after this special community dance.

  • Ongoing Needs

    • Clothing Closet Upkeep & Organization

      Help sort, size, fold, and hang donated apparel to keep our community clothing closets organized and accessible for local families.

    • Foster Family for Pets

      Provide safe, temporary foster housing and care for companion animals during times of family transition or crisis.

    • Support Session Facilitators (ie: art classes, crafting, cooking, etc.)

      Lead or assist in leading creative, educational, or life-skills workshops for community members.

Healthy ROOTS

  • Community Seed Swap (February)

    Help sort, package, label, and share seeds with local gardeners while assisting guests at check-in.

  • Garden Tea Party (May)

    Assist with garden plot preparation, setting up tables, serving healthy light refreshments, and guiding visitors through the community garden space.

  • Ongoing Needs

    • Guest Presenters & Educators (ie: florists, farmers, USDA, chef, produce manager, etc)

      Share your professional or practical expertise by leading hands-on demonstrations or workshops in gardening, cooking, and nutrition.

  • Information Distribution

    Help restock and distribute flyers, posters, and resource packets at community hubs, clinics, and local partner sites.

  • IT Assistance (Computers, Printers, Phone, Fax, etc)

    Help keep our office tech running smoothly by providing basic troubleshooting, device setup, and hardware maintenance support.

  • Community Fitness Classes

    Lead or assist with beginner-friendly physical health sessions, walking clubs, or movement classes for local residents.

  • Story Stroll (Book Collection & Rotation)

    Assist with selecting, rotating, and physically installing book pages along community outdoor walking paths to support youth literacy.

  • Survey Distribution/Collection

    Engage with community members at public events to gather valuable survey feedback and help inform future health initiatives.

  • Community Health Assessment / Health Risk Assessment

    Support data collection, outreach, and community focus group coordination to identify key public health needs across Monroe County.
